Concept: Watch Out Now
Creating a photorealistic watch seemed very challenging in the beginning but after working on it piece by piece it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I knew that the key to this project would be the tiny details such as a shine or a shadow on the clock hands or a using gradients to create a subtle change in color on a watch band. My overall goal for this project was to make something look so real that people wouldn't notice at first glance.

Sketch Process:
The sketching process for this project was interesting because I wasn't sketching watches as a whole but parts of it. Sketching these parts helped me realize just how much detail each part would need. For example just the nob on the watch has a change in color depending on where the light hits it and there's little grooves that fan out making the grooves look like the curve as they approach the end of the nob. Sketching definitely helped with this project.
Draft:
Draft Critique: People who saw my draft said it was looking good but that there were still some tiny details to work on. Some said that I needed to work on making some of my minutes a little darker to match my reference photo. Some said that I should make the lines on my nob fan out more because I had them all going straight. I did make my nob lines fan out a little more but making my minutes darker was a little challenging because my watch is mainly black so it was hard to tell which part had a shade to it and which was just black.

Final Watch:
Although my watch isn't a picture perfect match of my reference I did manage to make it look real enough that six of my friends thought it was real on first glance. If six people thought it was real then I feel like I accomplished my overall goal. It wasn't easy getting every detail right but I manage to get enough to give this watch a lifelike feel to it even if it is just for a split second glance.
